The Gap of Time

The Gap of Time is an ambient composition that captures the fleeting moments and emotions experienced in the daily life of NYC.

During my time studying in the United States, my favorite destination was New York, as my best friend studied there. But she lived in Jersey City, separated from Manhattan by the Hudson River. Walking through the streets of Manhattan always brought a sense of the city’s hustle and vitality—its bustling roads and endless streams of people. Once, I was chatting with my friend about everyday life in New York, and she mentioned a recent photo she had taken. It was a shot captured through a street-side window, showcasing two entirely different worlds—inside the cozy and quiet café, people were chatting and reading, while outside, the street was busy and filled with constant traffic.

Can we somehow merge these contrasting spaces of New York through sound? From the reflections on the cozy café’s windows to the busy traffic on the streets; from the daily commuters taking the PATH train and ferries between Jersey City and Manhattan to the rare tranquility of the city during rain or snow—these fragments collectively form the city’s “temporal gaps,” fleeting yet emotional moments that reflect the diverse facets of people’s lives.
